Who I am: My name is Matt Cantor. I’m the quintessential Berkeleyite. Very political, environmentally oriented
and very intersted in art, science, world affairs, family and community.
My wife, the Rev. Este Gardner Cantor
is a recently ordained Episcopal priest and works as Associate Rector at Church Our Savior in Mill Valley where she specializes
in Children’s ministry. Though Jewish by heritiage, I am an active participant at All Souls Parish in Berkeley where
Este was formerly the Director of Religious Education. I remain a captain of the Open Door Dinner in which we feed a sumpuous
Jumbalaya dinner to roughly 140 hungry folks (some homeless, some just down on their luck) once a month. I also participate
in other activities with All Soul folks to the end of further confusing my religious heritage.
I’m also a
14 year participant with Rebulding Together (formerly Christmas in April) and act now as an inpector for this organization,
making sure that the right houses get selected and assuring that work is done safely.
I and my friends love to
get together, play music and sing. I’m on the 10 year plan to learn folk guitar.
I have two daughters, Lilly
Anne (16) and Hannah Rose (14) both at Berkeley High (although both have been home schooled to varying degrees over the years).
Lilly is a serious Shakespearian actress with about 7 year experience (including adult productions in Berkeley) and was selected
to perform at the California Shakespeare Festival Gala in ’06.
Hannah was Bat Mitzvahed (remember the religious
confusion) in ’05 to many Ferklemped famliy and friend. She’s a terrific student, an anime and manga fan and an
amazing cook (thanks in part to Alice Waters of Chez Panizze and her King middle school Edible Garden and Kitchen.
